New Delhi : In the name of freedom of expression, people with colonial opinions are stopping the development of the country: PM Narendra Modi

India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday expressed regret that some people, without understanding the aspirations of the nation, stop the development of the nation in the name of freedom of expression.

The Prime Minister was speaking at the inaugural function of the Constitution Day celebrations organized by the Supreme Court at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. Chief Justice of India NV Ramana and Attorney General of India KK Venugopal also attended the event.

Speaking in the context of stalling of development projects in the name of environmental protection, PM Modi said,

“Environmental concern is now being raised to stop the development of the nation. In India, we see God in plants and trees and also see the motherland as God. This country should be given lectures on environmental protection. Has recently represented India in front of the world on the environment in the COP 26 conference.

Further reiterating his points, he said that it is sad that there are people in our country who stop the development of the nation without believing the aspirations of the nation in the name of freedom of expression.

In this context, the project of Pandit Nehru and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel dreamed of a dam on the river Narmada. Got caught in the trap of environmental pollution concerns.

The PM said that the colonial mindset of some people is pulling the country back, there is a need to change it.

He said, “It is the colonial mentality that is responsible for throttling the dreams and aspirations of our young India. We have to destroy this colonial mindset and for that, we have to trust in the Indian Constitution.”

He also said that the judiciary and the executive are linked pillars as they are established by the same constitution. Further said that even though they may look different to you in the system, they derive their powers from the same source.

“The judiciary and the executive are born out of the constitution. Therefore, we are twins and even though we look different, we are from the same source.”

On separation of powers, he said that both the organs have to work with collective accountability.
